Other Sites

Our CodeAbbey is mostly oriented for beginners. So if you soon will find the problems here are too simple for you (or the place is too dull overall) you may want to try several other resources.

The following two sites held regular online contests:

• TopCoder - US-based website holding about 3 short contests (Single Round Matches giving you 3 tasks to solve in about 90 minutes) monthly and one Marathon (contest longing for few weeks) each few months, along with other industry-related contests which propose small money awards usually.
• Codeforces - Russian website hosting 3-5 short-contests (giving you 5 tasks to solve) each month along with several other events (some with monetary prizes) probably most intensively used place dedicated to Competitive Programming over the whole world wide web - here you can also find good community support and news related to upcoming competitions, trainings...

These places have also big sets of programming tasks and online judges to check your solutions, but usually they have no programming contests:

• Timus - great archive of problems from different real programming competitions (including ones held in Russia, Europe, US, Asia etc.) - website is based in Russia;
• SPOJ - probably the greatest collection of competitive programming tasks and about 30 programming languages are allowed for submitting solutions - backed by Sphere Research Labs, Poland;
• LightOJ - vast amount of interesting problems collected by Jane Alam Jan, Bangladesh - former ACM ICPC World finalist and currently employed by LinkedIn.
• UVA - big online judge maintained by University of Valladolid, Spain.

And here are specific problemset sites not dedicated to competitive programming:

• ProjectEuler - collection of curious math-related problems by which the CodeAbbey itself was inspired.

Few interactive tutorials helping to learn some languages:

• CodeCademy - teaches primarily Javascript, then Python etc. - though you should not expect to become web-guru after completing this;
• CodingBat - a set of nice exercises for Java and Python.
