Rodion:

I would be honored if you considered a new suggested problem (featuring another adventure of Prof. Adams); it should be in your mailbox.

Cheers and all the best,

Vladimir

P.S. I took the liberty of adding my own solution to The Problem of Too Many Clues and was inordinately amused to discover that someone solved it, like Holmes, without using a computer. :)

Vladimir,

I am looking forward to the new problem and to the interesting story line which is bound to accompany it. This post should move yours back to the top, which might give it more chance of being spotted.

Dear Friends!

Sorry for delay - the problem is online - thanks a lot! As a matter of fact there is no problem with spotting Vladimir's posts since he doesn't hesitate to click Summon Admin button below :) This is an example I really do beseech and welcome you, Clive, to follow :)

There was minor issue with the python's outdated version not undrestanding f"..." so I, getting notification close to midnight on Saturday, set aside but failed to return to it in the very next morning, sorry. Really it is less than 1-minute fix... (vladimir, you should be able to see your modified code via problem page, please verify)

The problem obviously employs the extended checking functionality so please feel free to gently test it in various ways to see what outcomes Vladimir's checker returns!

Thanks, Rodion!

There is absolutely no pressure to release the problems as soon as you get them (or, for that matter, at all - these are just suggestions!).

Sorry for not realizing the format qualifier was introduced past 3.5; maybe I should just have a separate environment for testing these scripts. Yes, your replacement makes sense; thanks!

Clive: thank you for the kind words!

Good job, Mathias. :)

Vladimir,

This is a most impressive problem. The new ways of looking at a maze are very entertaining. I particularly liked the double move feature. This would certainly make it much more difficult to achieve a manual solution.

You are clearly fascinated by mazes. I look forward to future new ways of looking at them. You certainly must have had great fun developing an algorithm to generate the puzzles.

Rodion,

I will try to remember to use the summon admin button in future. However, I really don't mind if there are periods of time when you don't check into the site. I'd be surprised if there weren't. Since I put my draft problem descriptions in the forum it is easy for anyone to solve them in advance of publication. It is also possible that someone (probably Mathias) will find an error or something that needs clarification. This would enable appropriate changes to be made before the problem is published.

Thanks for the nice graphic that you added to my last problem.

Clive

Clive:

Thanks, and you are absolutely correct. My first few problems started with the solution in mind - but, starting from "The Catacombs...", the inspiration became the challenge of coming up with the problem-generating algorithm.

The next puzzle (in a week or so) will be about the problem itself; I've put it together before I knew if it is actually solvable. Then I had to solve it. :)

Cheers and all the best,

Vladimir
