This is a game for two axe-wielding players. It also involves a lot of red and blue paint. The challenge is to work out how to play the game optimally.

Clive, thank you and sorry for delay with publishing. There was curious thechnical issue (which at last appeared to be the limit of the size of database column which stores problem data) - but now I feel more prepared to interviews on databases and can switch to trying the problem :)

Hopefully all works well. Also we are eager to see how Mathias will assess its difficulty!

Rodion,

Thanks for posting the problem. There is one minor error. In the second line of the paragraph which comes just before the bush diagrams, there is a bush description which should be RRBBRRBRB**RB. In my browser it is displayed without the asterisks. The second bush description, at the end of the paragraph, is displayed correctly with the asterisks showing. I don't know if this is the same for other people.

The same problem appears here too! The string with all asterisks replaced with the letter a is RRBBRaRBRaBaaRB.

Ah, thank you! This is seemingly due to star symbols recognized as elements of markdown styling (making some fragments italic and others bold). I generally make minor edits immediately to the problem statement emphasizing some words and surrounding others with "backticks" to be shown in preformatted form. Just have forgotten to do it now, obviously being a bit excited, sorry :) Hopefully they are better now!

I found the problem to be not too hard, but I had recently watched an edutainment video about Hackenbush like 3 months ago so I already had a good idea of how to solve it.

Difficulty: 6 with an asterics. The asterics is for the fact that either one knows the theory (I didn't) or learns about it (I did) and thus it becomes an implementation challenge.
