Berke Utku Onder is ready for certificate

Hi Rodion,

I am (finally!!) ready for certificate

My full name is Berke Utku Önder. (If putting the Turkish character “ö” causes a problem, you can spell my surname as “Onder”. I couldn't put "ö" in the topic title)

I am a Turkish student studying in Singapore, and that’s why until now, my location was shown as Singapore. I thought I should change the location since I don’t have a Singaporean passport (though I wish I had one :) )

I have just finished my second year at college this year, so I can say that I do not have that much of experience in coding. My prof recommended me this website to practice my coding skills. Over the summer, it gave me the chance to practice my coding skills and to learn some new stuff (like Asm4004, Brainfuck, HTML). I personally want to thank you for creating this website. Honestly, I felt like I learned more with CodeAbbey than I did in some classes. Also, I have seen that I am the first Turkish person to get the certificate, so I can say that I’m a bit proud too :)

After this point, I think I will look for some online courses in Coursera or Udemy. Of course I will keep solving CodeAbbey problems, but since I have fulfilled the requirements of the certificate, I think I will shift my focus to something else. Getting this certificate was the first goal of mine during this summer, so now, I need to achieve my other goals :)

Once again, thanks for creating this website, and I will definitely recommend CodeAbbey to my friends who are interested in coding

Best,

Berke

Berke, Hello!

I am (finally!!) ready for certificate

And your Certificate is ready for You too :)

Thanks a lot for your persistence. I think I've noticed you on this site almost since beginning (firstly due to your handle "berkeutkeonder" looked similar to "Berkut-Kondor" which is "golden eagle" and "condor" in my native language - so I was wondering how someone in Singapore may come up with such a whimsical name) and was happy to see your steady progress.

My prof recommended me this website

Thanks for sharing this! I'm quite pleased to know about such attention to this small site, of course :) Please if possible pass my words of gratitude to your professor (BTW he/she may request "evangelist" certificate) - and that I'm a bit envious - for it's very nice to any teacher/professor to have such zealous students!

I will look for some online courses in Coursera or Udemy

I readily agree with this plan! Just problemsolving won't make anyone good programmer in modern world! If you'll find some decent courses - feel free to share. If not, hm-m-m... perhaps it's time for us to create the course of our own - something about basics of industrial programming :)

I couldn't put "ö" in the topic title

Yep. Sorry for this limitations - I think I limited the character set for titles so that they remain readable for browser with any locale. But I hope it is written properly on your certificate.

I have seen that I am the first Turkish person to get the certificate

Yes, exactly so! There was only one certificate (bishop version, for 125 tasks) for Singapore and none for Turkey yet. So I'm quite pleased also!

BTW, if not a secret, why have you decided to study in Singapore? Though I remember one friend of mine went from here (Russia) to study in Turkey for 3 years and she explained it is at least great experience to study in different and interesting country...

Hello Rodion!

he/she may request "evangelist" certificate

My prof has a CodeAbbey account, and his username is Bruno Bodin. His location is Singapore. I have also sent him an email about this as well!

If not, hm-m-m... perhaps it's time for us to create the course of our own

I will look forward to this!!

why have you decided to study in Singapore?

To be honest, the fate led me to study in Singapore :) I studied in an American High School in Turkey, and thus, I was applying colleges in the US. While I was applying to Yale University, I learned about the new college that Yale and National University of Singapore opened in collaboration, named Yale-NUS. Then, I applied to Yale-NUS as well, and then I found myself in Singapore. But I can tell you, it’s the best decision of my life. Yale-NUS is a small liberal arts college with a diverse student body. 40% of the student body is international and right now, I have friends from all around the world (including Russia :) ). Also, while I was coming to Singapore, I was planning to major in Economics, but after taking some CS courses, I have changed my major to Mathematical, Statistical, and Computational Sciences. If I wasn’t studying at Yale-NUS, I wouldn’t probably be on this website :)

she explained it is at least great experience to study in different and interesting country...

And yes, it is definitely great experience to study in a different and interesting country. After spending 19 years in Turkey, I thought I should see some other parts of the world as well. Singapore is a great city to live in. (But I must confess, I sometimes miss my hometown, but I visit Turkey twice a year, so it’s not a big problem)

Ah, I definitely remember him and his avatar - like cartoon image of happy computer geek in glasses and slightly unshaven :)

The only thing we need of him - to choose the preferred cert design, as we have several for "Evangelist":

codeabbey evangelist certificate designs

The whole thing looks like this one: https://www.codeabbey.com/index/cert_check/F3CD61179B333C1C

I will look forward to this!!

Not sure there is much I can teach :) Though I cast two small videos yesterday and one of them using some of your sources as an example. I hope you won't be offended :)

Golden Rule of Coding Style - video

Perhaps making these small videos would be good training for me and preliminary step before starting online course...

Yes, that’s him! I will forward this to him

I hope you won't be offended :)

Ahaha I quite enjoyed the video! While I was coding with C, I always copied and pasted my main function from my previous codes, and that’s why I made the same error almost in every problem that I solved with C :D But yes, I agree that the style is really important, and I was happy to see my mistakes. You can always use my codes for videos like this, I enjoy learning from my mistakes :)

Hello !

I wanted to say thank you. there is a lot of work in CodeAbbey, and obviously it has a positive impact on student learning. I am also amazed by Berke's achievement! This is really cool!

I like the picture in the middle!

Cheers, Bruno

Hi Bruno!

Thanks for your kind words!

I'm also amazed :) Though I've created all the tasks, I don't think I myself may have patience to solve them. I feel a bit envious that you have such patient students :)

I like the picture in the middle!

Let's put it on your certificate then - hopefully everything is correct here!

Thanks once more!

sincerely, Rodion
