From now it is possible to add translations to CodeAbbey problems. It seems important to me because while the site is created for beginners, usually beginners from non-English-speaking countries will prefer to read texts in their native language. Though of course for successful programming career nowadays "English is a must".

These translations are going to be stored as a project at GitHub so that people who would like to help with translating one or more tasks could do this on open-source terms. Detailed instructions could be found there also (link).

I myself will work on Russian versions, while I would be extremely glad if some colleagues will help with at least French and Spanish for at least few first problems. Surely other languages are welcome too (e.g. German, Italian, Chinese, Swedish, Norwegian, Japanese, Finnish etc.)

Feel free to express any questions / suggestions here or privately.

P.S. Of course I do not mean volunteers are expected to translate all 200+ problems. This is too much even for me :) Our first goal is to have at least 5-10 simplest (shortest) problems translated...

I could help with the translation to Romanian although the users from Romania and Moldova that speak the language make roughly 1% of the total number of users (0.7% to be exact).

So i don't know if this is a priority :D

I could also help with the french translation, but i'm not a native speaker, so some errors of judgement might be present.

Hi Alex!

Thank you for proposing help! 1% is not far too bad (about the same for France, or Spain, for example) - we should understand that percentage is low also because the site is in English so it probably will grow for any language if we have few problems translated :)

So if you feel inclined to help your countrymen, I will be quite glad! Two letter code for Romanian is ro, I think (for case if you will work via github fork and need to create new directory for files).

If after translating several problems to Romanian you will still feel enough enthusiasm for French - surely you are welcome. I believe colleagues can help us fix anything later easily as texts are going to be stored at github. :)

Ok Rodion, i'm not home at the moment, i will return next week and from that point i will begin the translation. So at least we have Romanian covered :)

Have a great week!

Hi Alex! Some news here. I was hinted by several gurus that small money reward could be appointed for such work - though regretfully smaller compared to normal translation rates, more trifle rather than payment. So if you are interested in it, please contact me to discuss it before starting!

I've begun to translate tasks to spanish. Left several in the Issues section of your GitHub account.

Wow, that is great! Thanks a lot! I was hopelessly searching for person with Spanish for a week already. If you are interested in small reward for your efforts, please contact me via email or FB!

UPD: I've merged your three translations and we all can see them on the site!
UPD2: Merged tasks 4-8 also - wonderful!

Hi Rodion,

I made a french translation of the 1st problem.

If it works out ok, I'll do some more as time permits.

Did you get a chance to look it over?

Guy, hello!

I'm very sorry for missing your comment at first! Thank you for your kind reminder!

I've found the branch you created and this file - right? If you do not mind, I will merge it as fr/task-1.md so you will see the result.

Of course your kind proposition of help is quite valuable for me (and, probably, for people preferring to read in French).

Please excuse me for being slow - I accidentally get bit too far from home for few days to celebrate 5 years of marriage - and using internet here is a tricky quest :)

Yup, that's the file.

Congratulations to you and your wife; please don't apologize for celebrating! Getting away from the computer is important to keep perspective on what's really important in life.

Guy, Hello!

I've just managed to merge your work and it is available on the site - it looks wonderful to me - no problems with formatting - and all these pleasant French words - wow! :)

Huh, to be honest I do not like getting too far from computer. I still like the remote places very much (moreover that our local climate / flora is very similar to one of Canada I believe and you probably share my opinion it is impossible not to like the sound and smell of those northern forests etc.) - but I also fell poor when I could not answer people in time :)

Hi! Thanks for your intention and your help! And please excuse me for delaying the answer!

You see, I've added your translations and tried to make text flowing rigth-to-left, however I could not assess how good or bad the result is. Could you please check?

It seems that preformatted blocks (those with input-output examples and similar) are better to be left left-aligned - what do you think?

Hi ,thank you for your efforts . The text flowing looks great ,i will continue to add translations from time to time.

Hi! I added two translations you've made (they now live in the ZH folder at github) - and they look perfect! I even recognize few characters which I know from my old attempts to learn a bit of Chinese. Thank you very much! :)

anna_viktor     2015-11-21 00:50:31

Hi! should I offer Russian translations if you do it too? To make the process faster)

ChillFruit     2016-08-09 01:11:06

Ummm, sorry for necroposting (?) but I'd love to help translating problems to Portuguese (Brazilian but it's mutually intelligible with European most of the time, so).

Please login and solve 5 problems to be able to post at forum
