Voyager Assembler?

I just read that at NASA the team for the good old real Voyager 1 has trouble programming the good old stuff, some special Assembler for the voyager CPU and Fortran.
I very much liked the way how CodeAbbey tought me to play with Intel4004 and with BrainFuck.
Wouldn't it be fun to play a bit with this very special intruction set of that processor? Maybe NASA would give some specs and some docs and even could invest a bit of the existing programmers time?
I'm really sure that here are some cracks wich could dive deep into some detailed subproblems and have clever ideas in a weekends spare time.

I like these things about history of spaceflights very much :)
But it seems that even the general specification of hardware of the Voyager could not be easily found on the web - am I right? What is your idea to approach NASA? :)
The other thing I dreamed of periodically is to create a kind of simulator of some space vehicle... Not that I have many ideas.
But by the way, have you played Colobot game?
